Situated on 45 acres (18 ha) of land, the Traverse City State Park is about 3.5 mi (5.6 km) to the east of Traverse City. The park features a variety of outdoor recreational activities for travelers to enjoy including biking, swimming, picnicking and boating.
Built in 1885, the Grand Traverse Commons was employed as an asylum until 1989. The forested grounds of the Grand Traverse Commons house manor-type buildings and draw visitors who use the area to bird watch, ski and take walks.
